Why subscribe?

This is a weekly round-up of rarely heard news reports from the war in Ukraine. If you have the impression that Ukraine is on the verge of collapse and triumphant Russian armies are advancing on all front then this is for you. You may be surprised, even startled, by what is really happening on the ground there. Plus there’ll be some occasional analysis drawn from those events.

I began this Substack because I realised that my perception of the war in Ukraine bore little relation to its reality. I am a trained researcher. I know how to dig into stories and so I started doing precisely that. What I found in specialist publications and eastern European news outlet who report on this conflict in detail surprised me. There are major stories that rarely make it on to the daily news agenda of the big international news outlets and run counter to the narrative we read.
